|
Features
- Distribute automatically.
- Parameter control.
-
Multiple email addresses for one report.
- Database password security control.
- Many output formats: Export files in such formats as Crystal Reports (rpt), MS Word, MS Excel, Rich Text (RTF), Comma Separated Variable (CSV), HTML, and PDF (requires Crystal Reports 8.x or higher).
- Exception reporting.
- Independent of your email client.
- Independent of your e-mail server.
- Reports displayed in the body of your email message.
cViewMANAGER is compatible with Crystal Reports XI and can process all prior versions of Crystal Reports.
|
Usage
Use cViewMANAGER to:
- Schedule each of your Crystal Reports to run at specific dates and times: once, hourly, daily, business days, weekly, monthly, or last day of month. In other words, distribute your Crystal Reports automatically at the date, time, and frequency you choose.
-
Send reports by email, in any of the available export formats.
-
Run the same report multiple times with different parameters and/or destinations.
-
Maintain an external list of values and destinations for a group of scheduled reports.
-
Modify report formula fields (including Record Selection and Group Selection) and database locations.
Installation/usage note:
It's usually best not to install a scheduler on the same machine as Crystal Reports. The issue is that you do not want different versions of Crystal Reports running reports at the same time, causing conflicts. That also means not having other schedulers such as Business Objects Enterprise or Business Objects Report Server on the same machine as our schedulers.
- You do not need to install Crystal on the machine where you install cViewMANAGER and we generally advise that you don't.
- If you do have the same version of Crystal installed on the machine where cViewMANAGER is running, that's OK although we generally advise that you don't because future installs may have a different version Crystal run time and that would cause conflicts in the future.
- If you have different versions of Crystal on the machine where cViewMANAGER is running reports, that's OK too; but only if they are not running at the same time.

cVM v cVS
|
We have two Crystal Reports schedulers: cViewMANAGER and cViewSERVER.
What's the difference?
cViewMANAGER runs as a Windows application. It will run reports only when you are logged in, because Windows applications require the user to be logged in to use them.
cViewSERVER is a Windows Service. So you load it and it runs whether you are logged in or not. Windows Services don't have a user interface, so a free copy of cViewREMOTE comes with it for that purpose.

|
Benefits
Buy cViewMANAGER now, and unleash the power that frees you from manual report distribution (see this free article about Crystal Reports Schedulers).
- With cViewMANAGER, you save time, save money, and increase productivity. You do that, because you automate the delivery of your Crystal Reports.
- cViewMANAGER works with reports and subreports that require secure database login.
- >cViewMANAGER can send your report as an email attachment, print on any system printer, or save in a variety of formats to a disk file. And it can do much more.
|
 |
-
Save time. cViewMANAGER schedules your reports to run at a convenient time so you do not have to be there or to wait for them to finish. You select the output format in advance and where to send it.
-
Increase productivity. Once you set your options, your reports will be sent regularly to where you want. You can say what time and how frequently your reports will run, all without user intervention. You decide on the output format from Crystal Reports and then say if they are to be printed, emailed as an attachment or saved to disk.
-
Enjoy extra flexibility. One report can be sent to multiple email addresses. You have the option to send to remote or local printers or folders. Emailing is independent of email client or email server. If your email server is unavailable, cViewMANAGER will hold the output until the server is available.
-
Keep control. You manage the list of reports. You can set parameter input and a list of email addresses for each report. Database passwords are controlled by you rather than the recipients needing a
password.

More
| Compatibility |
- cViewMANAGER is compatible with Crystal XI and all prior versions of Crystal Reports.
- cViewMANAGER is developed in Visual Basic 6 and uses the Crystal Report Designer Component (RDC) to process reports. For this reason it can be built to interact with Crystal Reports versions 8, 9, 10 and 11. As long as you aren't using any Crystal Reports 2008 specific features (for example the new Grid functions in the Crosstab object), cViewMANAGER 11.xx will run reports designed with the Crystal Reports 2008 report designer.
-
Crystal Reports 2008 has dropped support for the RDC so we cannot build a 2008 version of cViewMANAGER. But if that's your situation then we do have a solution. cViewSERVER is developed in Visual Studio.Net so it can run as a windows service, but this also means we can design cViewSERVER to use the Crystal Reports 10 Report Application Server (RAS) or the Crystal Reports 2008 RAS to to process reports. So, we recommend cViewSERVER if you are running Crystal Reports 2008.

How many scheduler licenses do you need? |
| A license is required for each server on which cViewMANAGER is installed. cViewMANAGER is usually installed by someone who has administrator rights to see the data and process the reports. Volume discounts are available.
You do not need multiple licenses just to permit different administrators of the same schedule. But purchasing multiple licenses makes sense under a variety of circumstances. For example:
- You have multiple reporting schedules to administer.
- Someone has a different set of security permissions to see a different set of data or reports. In this case, a separate license is needed to cover that set of data and reports.
- Someone is on a separate physical network (or even different city) with their own reports and data. In this case, a separate license is needed to cover that set of data and reports.
If you have a backup server which is simply used in the case of failure of your main server, we will not charge you for a second license of cViewMANAGER for the backup server.

What file formats does cViewMANAGER support? |
| As noted in the summary, it supports the standard Crystal Reports formats. But to support XML, you will need to purchase the XML UFL. See the Plug-ins tab for that.
Here's a detailed explanation:
cViewMANAGER could export to XML format but does not export to XML format. The reason for this is because we decided the standard Crystal Schema XML output was not controllable enough for many clients and using our XML UFL instead would be better. We have no plans to add the Crystal schema XML format to cViewMANAGER.
cViewSERVER (our scheduler that runs as a Windows service) cannot export to XML format because the Crystal run-time that Business Objects provides for 3rd parties like us is currently missing the XML format. You will find that our competitors who use .NET for development would be in a similar position and would not provide XML output format either. So we offer the solution to our clients of modifying their report in the schedule to use our XML UFL in a formula to give them the functionality they need.
The main benefits of using our XML UFL are that it gives significantly more control over the output. For instance, control tags do not need to relate to fields and it works across subreports. One of the disadvantages of the standard XML export from straight Crystal Reports is that it ignores subreports.
So in summary, using either of our schedulers with XLM UFL added to a formula in the report will provide highly controllable XML output, in some cases better than the standard Crystal XML format.
|
| What's the difference between cViewMANAGER and cView? |
| You can automatically schedule and distribute your reports and enable users to view and refresh reports from the database using a combination of cViewMANAGER and cView.
- cViewMANAGER is the scheduler and needs to be installed on only the PC scheduling the reports (and not on the PCs of the people receiving the reports).
- cView is the viewer and is installed on the PCs of the people receiving the reports.
|
|
Plug Ins
- Add even more functionality, by using cViewLOG to display information about your cViewSERVER schedules so you can optimize your Crystal Reports scheduler efficiency.
- Export to XML, using XML UFL.

Easy to implement, works great, 6.19.2010

The setup was smooth, and scheduling a report is easy. We had previously tried another scheduler and with their product this was not the case.

This report scheduler did everything we wanted. But, there were some issues in implementation due to our unusual configuration. The support was fantastic, and we got those issues solved quickly.

    cViewMANAGER rocks, 8.18.2008

I trialed this software a few months back and really liked it, after checking out several other options I came back to cViewMANAGER as by far the best Crystal Reports Scheduler available. Easy to set up and maintain, and very reliable. I have it processing loads of reports ranginging from exception reporting running hourly to month end board reports, all emailed/printed/saved exactly where they are needed, many even run several times with different parameters and output to different locations.
If you are looking for a scheduler, this is the one.

Product is great, sort of. Tech support is LOUSY!, 4.9.2008

The product does most of the things advertised. It occasionally "skips" entries in Multi-run lists for no apparent reason. The eMail feature doesn't work properly. Don't bother trying to get tech support, you get sent down Alice in Wonderland's rabbit hole, are asked for documentation, copies of reports, and then need to nag for days and weeks, all that to not get a useful response or you might not get any response at all.
