What's a Crystal Reports Viewer?
|
It's an inexpensive rpt reader that resides on the desktop. It gives recipients more options and functionality than the .rpt reader in Business Objects. A key advantage is you can send .rpt files to customers or vendors, and they get drilldown and other .rpt functionality. But they don't have to buy and install a Crystal Reports system. |

Why Buy?
|
Flexibility. If you need to share .rpt files with customers, vendors, or others who don't have Crystal Reports software, this is how you do it. Users who don't have the large, expensive Crystal Reports designer software can't open the .rpt files to view the reports.
Cost-savings. Inside the enterprise, you can save considerable money with the desktop viewer approach. Its' considerably less expensive than the Web-based alternative. So, what are you giving up to save this money? The advantage of the Web-based alternative users can get reports upon demand. But is this really an advantage? With a viewer that allows the user to refresh the report against live data, the answer is often no. The desktop viewer approach provides all the needed functionality. For a fraction of the cost.
Simplification. The desktop viewer approach is not as complex as the native reader or Web approach. You get easier implementation and reduced workload on your system administrator.
